When people first hear about online therapy, they often wonder: <strong>Does it really work? Can therapy over a screen be as impactful as in-person sessions?<\/strong> The answer is a resounding yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to walk you through what to expect in online therapy, how cognitive distortions and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) play a role in anxiety, and how deeper trauma-based anxiety can be effectively treated through EMDR and SMP therapy\u2014even in a virtual setting. Anxiety treatments are out there and sometimes people are confused with that to &#8220;go&#8221; for. I am trained in different modalities and I use them as weapons to fight anxiety uniquely in each client that comes my way. For me it&#8217;s important to get to know YOU in depth so I can modify the treatment plan on you and fight anxiety properly. Managing anxiety with online therapy can work wonders. Let&#8217;s dive in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Effectiveness of Online Therapy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a common misconception that therapy needs to happen in person to be effective. But research consistently shows that online therapy is just as powerful as in-person sessions for treating anxiety and other mental health conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, many of my clients find online therapy even <strong>more convenient and comfortable<\/strong>. Being in your own space can make it easier to open up, and removing the hassle of commuting means people are <strong>more consistent with their sessions<\/strong>\u2014which, in turn, leads to better results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, I\u2019ve seen clients go from being completely overwhelmed by their anxiety to regaining control and confidence\u2014all through <strong>virtual therapy<\/strong>. It\u2019s about using the right techniques and <strong>creating a space where healing can happen, regardless of physical location<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cognitive Distortions &amp; CBT: Reshaping Anxious Thoughts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety often thrives on <strong>cognitive distortions<\/strong>\u2014irrational and exaggerated thought patterns that fuel worry and fear. These distortions can make small stressors feel like massive threats. Some common ones include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Catastrophizing<\/strong> \u2013 Expecting the worst-case scenario in every situation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Black-and-white thinking<\/strong> \u2013 Seeing things as either all good or all bad, with no in-between.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mind reading<\/strong> \u2013 Assuming you know what others are thinking (usually assuming the worst!).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Overgeneralization<\/strong> \u2013 Believing that one negative event means everything will always go wrong.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where <strong>Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)<\/strong> comes in. CBT is all about <strong>identifying, challenging, and reframing<\/strong> these unhelpful thought patterns. In online sessions, I guide clients through exercises that help them <strong>recognize when anxiety is taking over<\/strong> and give them <strong>practical tools<\/strong> to shift their mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if a client struggles with catastrophizing, we work on <strong>evidence-based thinking<\/strong>\u2014asking questions like: <em>What\u2019s the actual likelihood of this worst-case scenario happening? Has this happened before? What are the facts vs. my fears?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through online therapy, we use <strong>interactive worksheets, guided journaling, and real-time exercises<\/strong> to help rewire anxious thought patterns. This can be anything from childhood experiences to more recent events that left a deep imprint on the nervous system.
