Whether you&#8217;re feeling chronically overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted or constantly on edge, you&#8217;re not alone. Many of the clients I work with come in and say things like: \u201cI can&#8217;t close my mind\u201d or \u201cI feel like I&#8217;m running on fumes.\u201d Therapy for anxiety and burnout can really help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this sounds like you, the good news is that help is available. And more importantly, there are real ways to feel better without just pushing or pretending that everything is fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this post, I want to explain what stress and burnout actually are, how they are connected, and what therapeutic approaches I use that really make a difference. These are what I&#8217;ve seen work over and over again in real sessions with clients like you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Is Anxiety?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety isn\u2019t just \u201cworrying too much.\u201d It\u2019s a full-body experience. It can show up as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Racing thoughts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Muscle tension or restlessness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty sleeping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Constant overthinking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sense of dread or fear\u2014even when things seem okay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety is your nervous system on high alert. And while it serves a purpose (keeping you safe), it becomes a problem when it doesn\u2019t turn off even when there\u2019s no real threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Is Burnout?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Burnout happens when your mental, emotional, and physical energy has been drained over time. You\u2019ve likely been operating under stress for so long that your system just can\u2019t keep up anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Signs of burnout include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emotional exhaustion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loss of motivation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cynicism or detachment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brain fog<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feeling numb or disconnected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Burnout isn\u2019t just a work issue it can come from caregiving, emotional labor, or constantly being in survival mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Anxiety and Burnout Are Connected<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety keeps your nervous system in \u201cgo\u201d mode. Burnout is what happens when the system finally crashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I often work with clients who are stuck in this loop:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You feel anxious, so you push harder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You ignore your needs, stay productive, stay \u201con.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eventually, you hit a wall. You can\u2019t focus. Learning How to Regulate Your Nervous System<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety and burnout aren\u2019t just in your mind they live in your body. That\u2019s why learning how to regulate your nervous system is key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In therapy, I teach clients grounding techniques, breathing strategies, and somatic tools that help bring your body out of \u201cfight-or-flight\u201d and into a more calm, balanced state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 <strong>2. Identifying Thought Patterns That Feed Anxiety<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Using <strong>Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (<a href=\"http:\/\/dimitriostherapy.com\/treatments\/cognitive-behavioral-therapy-cbt\/\">CBT<\/a>)<\/strong>, we work together to recognize and shift the negative thought loops that keep you stuck like catastrophizing, perfectionism, or self-doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you learn to catch these patterns, you can start responding instead of reacting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 <strong>3. Getting to the Root with EMDR Therapy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Often, anxiety and burnout are symptoms of <strong>unprocessed past experiences<\/strong> like childhood pressure, emotional neglect, or constant criticism. <a href=\"http:\/\/dimitriostherapy.com\/treatments\/eye-movement-desensitization-and-reprocessing-emdr-therapy\/\">EMDR<\/a> (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps process these emotional blocks so they no longer run your system behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clients are often amazed at how much lighter they feel after working through a memory or belief that\u2019s been stuck for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 <strong>4. Reconnecting with Yourself<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Burnout disconnects you from your body, your needs, and your joy. In therapy, we explore what you\u2019ve been ignoring or avoiding often out of survival and begin rebuilding that connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t about adding more to your to-do list. It\u2019s about <strong>coming back to yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 <strong>5. Making Realistic Changes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, anxiety and burnout stick around because your lifestyle, boundaries, or relationships aren\u2019t aligned with what you truly need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therapy helps you take a step back and make intentional, practical shifts without guilt. That might look like saying no more often, taking actual rest, or redefining success in your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Online Therapy Works So Well<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of my clients prefer doing therapy online especially when they\u2019re anxious or burned out. You don\u2019t have to commute, get dressed up, or leave your home. You can show up exactly as you are, which often helps the process feel safer and more comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yes <strong>EMDR works beautifully online, too.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What I Want You to Know<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t have to \u201chit bottom\u201d to get support. You don\u2019t need to justify why you\u2019re feeling the way you\u2019re feeling.
